Bird Is The Word

Recently my focus has been on turkey hunting! Last year was the first time I had ever been! I have hunted dove in the past but this was my first turkey! It was a team effort between me and my good friend Jack! We live in Florida so what you are seeing is an Osceola turkey! They are native to Florida! This particular Gobbler (male turkey) had a 10.5 inch beard and 2 inch spurs! One of the biggest Osceolas I have seen! Decked in all my turkey gear...
Turkies on the move...
I have found that the slate call works better for me compared to a box or diaphragm call! I also use a Bennelli 12 gauge super sport shot gun, and Remington turkey loads!

Flatts Fun

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My Name is Brenna, and I love the outdoors! I fish, hunt, bike and camp as often as I can! I am a native Texan and a resident Floridian! North Texas is where my love for the outdoors began, however Central Florida is where it blossomed! The very first outdoor experience I had in Florida was flatts fishing, I went out with a few friends, and took one look at the open water and sunset on the bay and was hooked! (No pun intended)! In the flatts I enjoy catching Red Drum, Snook and Spotted Trout! There is also the occasional Sheepshead and Puffer fish! After a long day on the water I love to return home and cook up my catch! It doesn't get any fresher or tastier than that! The trout is best fried, and the redfish is best blackened! I have not been able to cook very much with snook because they just came back in season, so stay tuned for that recipe! Fishing the flatts is best during the colder months of February through April! When the bay waters start to warm, the flatts become populated by shark and sting rays looking for a quick bite, and that bite should not be your leg! Be sure and check the tides before you venture out as well, the best time to fish are long outgoing tides! Follow this blog for more adventures from The Girl Outdoors!
